Misty Meadows Breeding Farm
Breeding quality warmbloods is our primary goal at Misty Meadows breeding farm. We choose our broodmares carefully, focusing on their bloodlines, conformation and temperament.
Since we only breed 2 to 3 foals per year, we research our stallion choices in depth looking for complements to our mare’s strengths and improvements on any weaknesses to create a foal with the temperament, movement and conformation to compete in dressage or jumping at the highest levels.
Modern facilities and lots of pasture with horse safe fencing highlight our facility. All our horses, mares, foals, and yearlings are turned out on pasture for many hours each day to develop mentally, socially and physically with other horses, but come into the barn each day to be handled individually. The breeding facility is separate from our training and boarding facility to protect our young horses and broodmares from the possibility of illness in a busy training barn. We have dedicated foaling stalls with video cameras and have trained foaling professionals on staff to provide any needed interventions during foaling.
We do early imprinting on our foals. All our young horses are handled and taught proper ground manners each day by people experienced with young horses. Our foals, weanlings and yearlings trust people, know how to lead, and stand for the farrier. If you purchase a yearling or older horse, they will lead, tie, trailer and clip.
Since nutrition is a cornerstone of proper development, we review our mare, foal and yearling diets carefully, balancing out their diet, and providing them with proper supplementation for optimum growth. Our farrier looks at each foal at a very early age and regularly thereafter to provide any intervention necessary for proper bone development.
At Misty Meadows, we feel proper breeding, handling and nutrition create the perfect opportunity for our foals to reach their ultimate potential, providing you the perfect partner for which ever discipline you may choose.
